SAMHSA’s mission is to reduce the impact of substance abuse and mental illness on America’s communities.

National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), part of the National Institutes of Health, is the lead federal agency for research on mental disorders. The website provides information on clinical trials and how to sign up. Free brochures, pamphlets and e-books are available on the website, covering topics such as depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorders, and other mental health topics.

National Council on Behavioral Health is a nonprofit organization that provides education, advocacy, and resources on mental health and addiction disorders to mental health providers, patients and their families. The organization operates Mental Health First Aid in the United States and has trained 500,000 individuals.
