An Army Veteran Gifted Food & Electricity
Michelle, an Army veteran from Virginia, found herself in a tough spot, needing help with food and an overdue bill. She connected with Serving Together. Our Care Coordination team quickly stepped in to help. They connected Michelle with Cook for Vets, a local nonprofit that provides food for veterans.
Thanks to them, Michelle now receives fresh food and home-cooked meals delivered to her each month. The care coordinator also worked with a funding source to completely cover her overdue bill, ensuring her electricity stayed on. This support gave Michelle the peace of mind and stability she needed during a challenging time.

A Teen Offered Life-Preserving Support Through 988
16-year-old Emily reached out to us via 988 text while battling overwhelming thoughts of suicide and strong urges to self harm. In a heightened state of anxiety and stress, Emily found it challenging to self-regulate and cope with the intense emotions weighing her down.
Our Crisis Hotline Counselor, Katy, guided Emily through a grounding exercise that engaged her five senses, bringing a sense of calm and creating space for her to open up about the factors contributing to her distress. They worked together to develop a safety plan tailored to alleviate the weight of Emily’s thoughts and urges toward self-harm and suicide.
By the end of their conversation, Emily expressed a sense of relief, saying, “I don’t feel the same overwhelmed feeling and I’ve stopped crying for now.” This transformation embodies the power of listening and empathy, reminding us that through support and understanding, we can help individuals like Emily find hope and strength in the face of darkness.
